Short answer: choose the Angel Bed on its own if you like a supportive, medium-firm bed and sleep mostly flat. Add the comfort topper if you want it soft. Choose the complete Angel Sleep System if you also want to raise your head or feet, or if two of you want different positions.

When the mattress on its own is enough
The Angel Bed is a complete mattress. Its CloudLift layers (quilt foam, soft foam, latex and micro-coils) sit over the CelestialCore five-zone coil system, so it cushions the shoulders and hips while supporting the rest of the body. If you like a supportive feel, sleep flat, and already have a frame or foundation you are happy with, the mattress alone is a sensible place to start.
What the comfort topper changes
The topper is a separate, removable layer that sits on top of the mattress. It takes the Angel Bed from medium-firm to soft. The support underneath stays the same; only the surface feel changes. Read more about the topper.
What the adjustable base adds
The six-motor base raises your head and feet, tilts the pillow area, adjusts lumbar support and saves two favorite positions. It is most useful if you read, watch TV or rest in bed, or if partners want different positions with a Split King.
Why the system is built as one
The Angel Bed's head-and-shoulder zone was designed to feel like the Angel Pillow, so support carries from the pillow into the mattress. The system pairs that with the topper and the adjustable base so every piece fits from the start, with one delivery.
Can I add pieces later?
Yes. The mattress, topper and base are each sold on their own, so you can start with the mattress and add the topper or base later.
